Default The Bigots Guide to Voyager

After indulging myself in the Bliss that is called TNG, I decided to
check out its sequel Voyager. I was expecting Sci-fi, I got a space-
opera, I thought I could force myself to like or at least tolerate
this tripe.I admit I was foolish enough to fall for the name, now I am
sure Roddenberry is spinning faster than a neutron star in his grave.
We only have look at the cast to see why:

Captain Kathy Janeway. The trangendered leader of the crew, it was
needed to employ a female, if you could call it that, to make the
numerous foolish decisions required to get the show to last more than
one season. Picard would have had the crew home for dinner, instead
Janeway, as the token strong female leader present in all shows
nowadays, tries again to break down stereotypes but only spawns more
misogyny through her ineptitude. TNG had Wesley, Voyager has Janeway,
nothings ever perfect, but this is shit.

Commander Chakotay. Yet another attempt of the pinkos to shove their
morality down our throats. Having a Tomboy Captain is bad enough, but
an Indian first officer! I truly came to dread Chakotays meaningless
prattle about akoochimaya and other nonsense. A masculine alpha-female
and a feminine beta-male, could the show be trying to make some point?
They don't even give this sissy a first name.

Lt Tuvok. As if we haven't had enough minorities in the command
structure. This lame rip-off of Spock spends his entire time stating
the obvious. Tuvok is probably one of the less irritating characters
in the show since we don't have to endure as much of the mindless
space-opera character development.

Bologna Torres. Only a woman engineer could be so inept, every shuttle
mission had catastrophic failure, every weapon hit to the shields
knocked out transporters and the warp drive. This little petach
somehow managed to become chief engineer, no doubt due to some 24th
century version of employment equity. The show doesn't make Janeway
wear skimpy troy outfits(thank god!), but Torres is passable, they
truly underutilized her in the series.

Harry Kim. So far we have a lesbian, an Indian, a Negro, whats
missing? You guessed it: a naive Asian. The innocent asian science
geek, just when you thought the show was trying to break stereotypes.
At least he's not driving the ship.

Tom Paris. The ships pariah, chauffeur and nurse, naturally he's a
young white guy. After every unsuccessful diplomatic encounter on the
viewscreen he is forced to make some quip to the effect of the alien
race being "pleasant" "charming" or some other irritating comment.

Kes. The original failed voyager sex symbol, starts out way to cute
and innocent, ends up turning into a major *****, true to life at
least, she got old pretty quick and was replaced by:

Seven of nine. Space barby, her only use in the show is to try an act
serious and prance around the ship in her skin tight uniform.
Occasionally she shortcuts the plot with technobabble of borg
technology. Naturally being a woman she, along with Janeway and Baloni
are the best scientists in existence.

The Doctor. Another outcast Caucasian; he, like many of the males
aboard, doesn't get a full name. Although he is professionally
competent, they had to write in serious character flaws so as to
bolster the pro-feminist/minority (AKA Politically Correct) agenda of
the show.

Neelix. Lots of people hate this guy, and no wonder: his character is
crap, a token cute/amiable/ character. Berman probably thought this up
himself, typical sell-out tactics. I hope the few measly dollars they
made selling Neelix-dolls was worth it to them. ****ing bastards.

Extras: In order to remedy the pure unadulterated excrement Berman
brought us some extra's and surprise surprise its the TNG cast. Q,
Barclay, and Troy are all brought in in a feeble attempt to bolter the
shows poor performance. Not that it helped but I personally got a tiny
bit of satisfaction out of the nostalgia.

I think your assessment is spot on. Voyager is not Trek ... it's
Drek! It is the one series I've never rewatched .. not ONE episode
have I re-watched since the original airing. I have my own DVD
collection of TOS, TNG, DS9 and ENT .. and TAS as well. Since VOY is
DREK, it did not qualify to be added to my collection. Originally, I
VHS taped every episode as it was first aired. When the season ended,
I put all the tapes in a back closet for a long time. Finally, I
cleaned out that closet and put all those tapes in the trash.

Beavis and Butthead (Berman and Braga ... and ***** producer Jeri
Taylor) should all be 'spaced' for producing that crap.

Picard would have surrendered the crew by dinner.

There's one of your problems right there. TNG was space opera too.

When did Picard ever surrender? The only time I reember a Trek captain ever
surrendering was Kirk in STVI.

He surrendered to the Klingon ship where Riker was serving TDY; forget the
episode name.

I think he meant soap opera.
Space opera is the term to use for space based stories.

Oh yes. "A Matter of Honour". But apart from that, he didn't even surrender
to the Romulans or the Borg. <g>

I can see your point... to a point. When Voyager first ran on prime time I
could not bring myself to watch it. I thought it was trying to be too
politically correct. I began to watch it after the series ended, while it
was in reruns. I grew to love this show because of it's fine character
interaction and acting. It's a great show. I believe it was the best Star
Trek series ever made.
