Okay...am curious, as to how many within this newsgroup has a 'real'
Christmas tree, either that they buy, or go out and chop down
themselves, and how many go with a artificial?
If you do have a real tree, what kind do you get?
When do you usually put your tree up and decorate it? Obviously if you
have a artificial, you can put it up as early as you want, but not that
easy with a real tree, cause they have REAL needles that will fall!
Do you have a special decorating theme for your Christmas tree? My
cousin in Or. puts up a tree in each room, and each one has a different
theme...an Alaska tree (she lived here for years), a Disney tree, etc.
I've never had a theme of any kind, nor certain colors that I use...like
white mini lights, red bows, red garland, and red ornaments, or some
other color, such as blue, or purple. Do you put a star, angel, (or
other) on the top? We use a angel.
We have always had a real tree. Years ago we always had a big bushy
Spruce tree and cut it down ourselves out in the woods, but anymore, we
buy a Noble Fir (love the smell of them) but this year I decided I
wouldn't mind going artificial for the first time ever, but hubby won't
hear of it, so if he wants to lay out money for a tree we can only enjoy
for two weeks, so be it. If we went artificial, I'd have it up now, but
not before Thanksgiving, as I don't like rushing the holidays.

I haven't gotten a real one in quite a few years. My father and I
would sometimes go together to get the family tree and I would pretty
much just pick one that "struck me". Ya know - like Charlie Brown -
ha ha.

I say every year I'm going to put it up the day after Thanksgiving or
that weekend and here it is Sunday and it's still in the box. I almost
talked myself out of putting it up cause I never celebrate Christmas
at home so I figure what's the use? But then again, it always looks so
"purty" when I'm done so I think I'll put it up...maybe tomorrow.

I have your basic "mutt" tree that has ornaments made by my son and
others that reflect things I love like panda bears, cats, signs of
peace, music and hearts - have a LOT of heart ornaments. Also anything
that glitters and is also purple and blue (my fave colors).

Oh Judy - you have to stick around....you come up with the best OT
threads!!!!!

Every year we get a real one....with the exception of a few years when we
were forced to get an artificial tree due to a childs severe allergies. We
leave the chopping to the experts.
Actually in the past 5 years we've picked up one large one for the family
room, and then another small-medium (4-5 foot) for the living room. My
kids still love the colored lights, so the large one gets that with most of
the ornaments on it. The smaller one is pretty much *my* tree. I put up
the small pretty white lights with all the fancy pretty breakable ornaments
on it. It sits in front of a large picture window which over looks the
back yard and pool. So when I'm in the hot tub (pretty much every night) I
can see it all lit up and looking so pretty.
> If you do have a real tree, what kind do you get?
We've been getting the Grand Fir for a few years now. It has the longer
softer needles. We used to get the Fraser ones but their needles are
shorter. While it has a stronger scent, which I like, I don't like the
sharper needles.
> When do you usually put your tree up and decorate it?
I have a child whose birthday is next week. I always tried to wait until
the birthday was over before I did anything Christmas related. Now that she
is a bit older, she expressed that she doesn't mind at all having the tree
up early and actually asked for us to get it this week. My problem is, I
like keeping the tree up until after the New Year. So getting the tree in
Mid December allows it to last longer. So I'm not sure what we'll do.
> Do you have a special decorating theme for your Christmas tree?
No. I'm not a theme type person. I have cherished ornaments from years
and years past...and each and everyone gets put up each year.
>Do you put a star, angel, (or other) on the top? We use a angel.
We have an Angel. Typically she does not go up there until Christmas eve.

I don't have a tree, but if I did it would be real. I can't stand
artificial trees. They are everything that is wrong with Christmas.

Do you guys not do trees Suzanne? I love real trees, don't get me
wrong....but I think part of me thinks they should live in the land
where they're happier (how hippie of me). But I'll make you really
gross out....a few years ago I went thru a nostalgic mode and actually
and actively sought out one of those silver trees from my youth (the
ones with the color wheel). They are gawdy as hell but it would have
brought back good memories. However, the "real deal" on those trees
are expensive.........collector's items I guess.

You don't have a TREE, and you have four young children?! I know it's
none of my business, but is there a reason...like maybe you are of the
Jehovah Witness faith, or are Jewish, or you for some reason, don't
celebrate Christmas?
I agree with you about artificial trees, as enough about Christmas is
commercial and "artificial", so that's why we've always had a real tree,
but now we're getting up there in years, and sometimes I think a person
has to change their ways of doing things, to make life easier.
I LOVE the Christmas holiday and everything about it, and I actually
prepare for it year around, and like getting things done early.

I always wanted a real tree growing up, but my Mother had the silver
aluminum number, that rotated on a pedestal in the front window, with
the spinning color wheel disc on it. All the ornaments matched and
were metallic blue. I hated that thing.

I must have missed the part where Suzanne said she didn't celebrate
Christmas.
In the immortal words of Bette Davis, "Fasten your seat belts, it's
going to be a bumpy night."

We don't celebrate Christmas; hence, no tree.

We are not Christian, so we don't celebrate Christmas.
