Yeah, I read this. My husband can't even fathom "Sulu" being gay. For me,
it's a shrug.

Honestly, I never gave it any thought one way or the other. I knew there
was all manner of gay slash regarding Trek, especially of Spock and Kirk, as
well as Janeway and 7, but none of it ever moved me to any sort of reaction.
I simply don't care what an actor' (or character's) sexual orientation is,
as long as it's consenting *adults*.

I get what you're saying, but I'm not sure you're getting my meaning. I was
raised in a very gay-positive environment. In fact, to my surprise, I saw my
little-known town listed as one of the 20 most gay-friendly cities in the
*world* (Winter Park, Florida). What I mean is that nobody I grew up with
obsessed over sexual orientation. We knew who was gay, but it didn't impact
our interaction with them, which is amazing for the 50s and 60s in a
southern town. I didn't experience homophobia until I went out on my own,
to other states.

So when I heard about Takei, in retrospect, it made sense (never saw him
with a female escort, etc.), but I wouldn't have given it a thought, had he
not come out.

I don't think so. She seemed to have a much more frank, adult personality
than you seem to see.

Being black, I certainly got plenty of that other social prejudice,
though...

I don't think so - I think that's Winter Garden or Winter Haven, also
Florida cities. I honestly don't know why it's so gay-friendly, but it was
back then, and as far as I know, still is.

*shrug*

He's a guy. He didn't set off my gaydar ever. I think this is the
first I've known he was gay.

Gosh. Do you offer that service for all?

I've always wanted a license plate.
